Ep.29: Life Transmission

This podcast is just a pure form of my creative expression. Every podcast up until this point has been conducted in either an interview, Q&A, or by choosing a topic and diving deep into it, but this podcast was none of those. Although it scared the shit out of me, I decided to just turn on the mic, hit record, and watch what shows up. A straight up transmission. I was very unsure at the start of this because I had no idea what I was going to say, but sure enough something truly beautiful came through.

This podcast is jam-packed full of golden nuggets of wisdom that have been coming through to me during my deep meditations and Cacao ceremonies. Issues that I’ve been battling with my whole life have been resolved because of these solutions and ideas. I have a newfound clarity that I’ve been missing, and I’m just so grateful to be able to share them with you like this.

I’m not sure how many more podcasts I will be doing like this, but I’d love to hear your feedback to see what you think and how you feel about it!

Ep.28- 7 Daily Habits To THRIVE This Year

This weeks AMA (Ask Me Anything) episode is inspired by an influx of questions I’ve been getting about the daily habits I implement in my life, mainly my morning routines. Almost every habit discussed in this episode was inspired by many of the guests I’ve had on the show. Each habit has contributed to a significant improvement in my relationship with myself, my wife, family, business, finances, and health; in other words, they’ve drastically impacted every important aspect of my life.

I’m so stoked to share these with you today!

It might be a bit overwhelming to try and implement all 7 at once, which is totally understandable. My advice is simple, pick 1 or 2 that are calling out to you and that you’re feeling pulled to, and begin implementing them ASAP. It’s more important that you stay consistent with one or two of these habits than it is to try all 7 for a little while and burn out and stop them altogether. Remember, consistency is KEY, especially when it comes to what habits you implement on a daily basis.

Ep.27: Michael McPherson- Finding Your Inner Compass, Divine Masculinity, Feeling Into Life, & Being Human AF

You guys are really in for a special treat with this episode. When Michael and I finished recording the episode we both took off the headphones with an astonished look on our faces like, “Woah! I think we just channeled something special here!” After listening to the podcast for a second time I can confidently say that we really did. The room felt electric, like we were in a space where time stood still and we were delivering a message from a much Higher source. It felt magical. And now I get to bring it to YOU.


I first met Michael a few months back at a KAKAO (aka cacao) Ceremony that he and his beloved, Makenzie (checkout episode 17 for more on her) hosted in their home. I attended the ceremony not knowing what to expect, and left feeling reborn. Literally. This ceremony changed my life and I owe so much to both of them for it. During the ceremony Michael locked into me on a very intimate and spiritual level, like he really saw me and wanted to help in any way he could. He dove deep with me and allowed me to do some deep inner-child work and resolve some past issues that had been lingering in my subconscious. Tears were shed, hugs were given, and a real bond was formed.

Since this incredible Ceremony I’ve stayed in close contact with Michael via social media and I am just constantly amazed by the quality of his content, the beauty and pureness of his writing, and his beautiful relationship with his beloved, Makenzie. Then one day he made an extremely vulnerable post about losing his shit in front of his family when his inner-child was triggered, and as I was reading it I was so moved that I instantly text him and asked if he’d be a guest on the podcast. The feeling to invite him on was so strong and pure I just knew that we were going to create something special here. So now here we are a few weeks later, and we did it!


So who is Michael McPherson? Well, other than being my soul-brother and an amazing human being, he is a conscious entrepreneur who is passionate about merging the worlds of mind, body, heart, and spirit for people to embody more of their soul and fully receive the magnificence of their own humanity. Michael and his beloved, Makenzie, co-channel KAKAO Ceremonial Drinking Chocolate, and much of his time is currently spent making their sacred blend of cacao while infusing it with the vibrational frequencies of Love, Light, and Unity.

He’s also amidst birthing a new entity focused on embodiment of the divine masculine for men and truly honoring the opening and rise of the divine feminine; a new way for men to live, BE, and act in the world, free from any limiting constraints of the past. (More on that coming soon). Michael has been through multitudes of developmental courses, studied the evolution of human consciousness, worked consistently with powerful plant medicines, and is just now starting to fully step into his channel for Source. These days his life is given by honoring the sacredness in everything, diving deep into our collective healing, and managing to lighten up, play, and have a a little fun along the way. :)

Ep.26- Rich Roll: The Artist’s Way, Combatting Addiction, & Staying Devoted To Your Truth

This weeks guest is none other than the man himself, Rich Roll. Honestly, this interview was surreal to me. When I set out to create the Thrive Academy Podcast I did so with the seemingly unrealistic dream of one day having Rich Roll on my show. Because not only has Rich been the most prominent catalyst to my plant-based transformation, but it’s his podcast (The Rich Roll Podcast) that has garnered me with the wisdom, inspiration, and perspective that has contributed to the shift of the trajectory of my life. So Rich, if you’re reading this, thank you again for this. I know everyone who hears this will surely thank you too.

Rich is the author of the global bestselling book, Finding Ultra. He is the host of one of the #1 health podcasts in the world, The Rich Roll Podcast (over 28 million downloads!) He was the first man, along with his buddy Jason Lester, to complete the Epic 5, which is completing 5 Iron Man-distance Triathlons on all 5 Hawaiian islands in under a week! Rich was a top finisher in the Ultraman World Championships in 08 and 09. He is 100% Plant-Based (PlantPowered). He gives keynotes at conferences, festivals, events, etc. all over the world. Rich is also a husband, father of 4, and an overall badass dude.


So now let’s get to the show…


This episode is incredible. It’s jam-packed full of gems covering a wide array of topics, from raising kids, marriage and addiction, to nutrition, plant-based living, spirituality and business. This episode really has it all so that anyone from all walks of life can relate to and grow as a result of this conversation.


Here is a little breakdown of our discussion in sequential order:

We start off by deconstructing Rich’s journey from a scrawny nerdy kid with headgear and an eyepatch, to accepting a full athletic swimming scholarship to Stanford. Rich shares his discovery of alcohol and his battle with addiction that ultimately led him to a rehab facility for 100 days. He discusses how he managed to land a job working for a high-end law firm, and what contributed to his leaving his practice to pursue what he was intuitively being pulled to in his heart. Rich describes the ups and downs and struggles he endured that ultimately led him to discovering his true self. This self-discovery and internal work led him to write a best-selling book, create the top health podcast on iTunes, compete in ultra-endurance events, go 100% Plant-Based, and travel around the world speaking to thousands of people.


We switch gears a bit and dive into raising kids in a Mindful, empowering way. Rich shares why it’s so important to respect our children’s sovereignty. When I asked him to give me advice on how to raise my kids on how to want to make healthy choices around food, he had so much wisdom to share. He recommended to always keep the conversation around food completely open, and always discuss why we eat this and not that, or what goes into this and into that, and why it’s so important to NOT to create rules around food so that there is no room for rebellion. This parenting segment was so eye-opening and enlightening to me as a new parent.


We transition from parenting and jump right into marriage and relationships. I ask Rich to share what he thinks have been some of the contributing factors to making his relationship with his wife so powerful. He had me laughing when he talked about how the modern trend to search for someone to “complete me”, per Jerry Maguire, is false and misleading. Essentially, we should fill up our own cup first, then give from the overflow to our lovers, family and friends. He says that one of the biggest contributing factors to his thriving relationship has been the fact that their core fundamental values are aligned and they share the same vision for their lives.


The episode takes a sharp turn here (thanks to my curiosity and personal experience with addiction) to discussing Rich’s journey to sobriety. He talks about the pain of relapse and how it’s catalyzed a more diligent approach to his sobriety now. Around the hour and eleven minute mark shit gets really real and vulnerable for me. I share with Rich my personal experience with addiction in my family and he gives me some of the best advice I’ve ever received. He discusses how families with addicts for sons/daughters/brother/sisters need to have strict boundaries, and how important it is to recognize that we are powerless over their actions and that they are going to do what they’re going to do regardless.  This was one of the most helpful segments of the podcast for me personally.


We end the show by discussing nutrition, the plant-based movement, and how Rich has been able to run a successful, authentic business by staying true to his personal beliefs and feelings. Also, after listening to Rich’s podcast with Rob Bell (one of my all-time faves) I’d been dying to hear his views on religion, spirituality, and purpose. His views are fascinating, and this quote was one of my favorites from this segment of the show.

“I’m always seeking. I’ve learned to be in alignment with the fluidity of living. The more I do this and find this in myself the more purpose I find in my life.”



I’m really just scratching the surface of all that we covered in this episode. I’m so pleased with the way this one turned out and I know it’s going to resonate with anyone seeking growth and a heightened state of being.

Ep.25- Embracing a Plant-Based Lifestyle

Ep.23- Heather Hemmer: The 30 Clean Movement, Overcoming Body Dysmorphia, Compassionate Coaching, & Living Authentically

Heather Hemmer is the beautiful  Co-Founder of The 30 Clean. Ep. 21- Dr. Meg: Naturopathic Medicine, Nutritional Healing, & the Microbiome

On today’s episode I had the privilege to sit down with Dr. Meg Strodel.

Dr. Meg is a Naturopathic Doctor (ND) at Shine Natural Medicine in San Diego California. She works with people of all ages and backgrounds. Dr. Meg has been personally working with naturopathic doctors to heal her own health ailments since she was 12, which she was able to do successfully. Her personal experience with naturopathic medicine was so profound that she decided to pursue the field as her life’s work to help others heal and thrive holistically.


During our conversation we cover a wide array of radical topics. We begin by discussing the current climate and shortcomings of the medical system and how naturopathic medicine is helping to shift the backwards paradigm. We talk about the ways in which naturopathic practitioners are putting the power back into the hands of the patient (us) and making us feel listened to and really cared for. Dr. Meg explains what a Naturopathic Doctor (ND) is and how it differentiates from an MD.

We discuss simple choices anyone could make who is looking to live a healthier, happier life. We dive into the microbiome and how and why it’s considered to be the foundation of overall health. Dr. Meg shares her tips for avoiding the Flu and common cold by using various herbs, foods, and supplements. We talk about what the ideal diet consists of and what role it plays in overall wellness.

Dr. Meg also shares her personal journey to get to where she’s at today. She opens up about some of the personal experiences she faced in her earlier years and how they impacted the work she is doing today. She drops numerous knowledge bombs on this episode, many of which I’d never heard and completely blew me away! (which is hard to do!)
